Reaping the idiot bounty

A friend of mine who is kind of a big deal in education reform has been warning me for years that the decline of civic education, which really accelerated in the late 70s and early 80s, will haunt us for years to come.
The result is that the necessary skills for sorting out the various roles each branch of government plays, how they’re intertwined and where the buck stops are sorely lacking in far too many of our fellow citizens.
That combined with a controversy-driven media, clever corporate oligarchs and the lyingest pack of scoundrels to every hit the national political stage are creating an atmosphere where it just doesn’t fucking matter what the truths are is and the reality is.
Suspicion, driven by ignorance rules the day.
