If past is prologue, I’m sure the folks at the John Locke Foundation are scrambling to dig up a graphic that ran on Blue NC or some other blog that depicted President Bush in an unflattering light and will have examples to show that liberals are irreverent to the office of the presidency.
That’s standard operating procedure for push back these days.
But what ran on the JLF blog last night wasn’t just irreverent, it was racist and homophobic. Every bit as racist as all those graphics of the president that unhinged opponents of the president like to email each other for a laugh. Every bit as homophobic as a Jesse Helms commercial featuring a San Fransisco gay rights parade.
This won’t go away. WRAL is up with a story and the print journos are going to be catching up on it this am. Check out See Chris Kromm’s post on the Art Pope Exposed as it’s being updated regularly as more information rolls in.
And NC NAACP president William Barber has released a statement this morning calling for some accountability. Via Cash Michaels, who broke this story:
We at the NCNAACP have learned of the disgusting picture of our President on the John Locke Foundation blog and website. What we have seen so far has both racist and homophobic overtones, both of which are contrary to the fundamentals of our democracy. It’s outrageous and it shows the kind of racialized, mean-spirited and divisive political attitudes that still exist in the South. On Thursday we will demand to know who authorized and developed such a racist and bigoted portrayal to be placed on the site of an organization that seeks to have so much influence into the shaping of public policy in NC. Whoever did it is completely over the line. It is reckless and dangerous. And should not only be an afront to the black community, the civil rights community, the LBGT community, but every North Carolinian.
