Bill of the Day: Pay teachers those ABC bonuses

Chosen for its line-in-the-sand approach in anticipation that teacher, like the rest of the state’s employees are going to take it on the chin this budget cycle, we have H37, Rep. Cullie Tarleton’s bill to make sure the ABC bonuses aren’t seen as deficit plugging material.
As follows:

Short Title: Pay Teachers the ABC Bonuses They Earned.
Sponsors: Representative Tarleton.

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT to fully fund the abcs bonuses earned by public school employees during the 2007‑2008 school year.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1. There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of Public Instruction the sum of forty‑four million dollars ($44,000,000) for the 2009‑2010 fiscal year to fully fund bonuses earned by public school employees during the 2007‑2008 school year in accordance with the ABCs of Public Education Program.

SECTION 2. This act becomes effective July 1, 2009.
