UNC Health Care bonuses top $2.5 million

Remember the recent fuss about last year’s bonuses for UNC Health Care’s top brass? Not good timing since the system was already taking considerable heat from patient rights advocates over (among other things) its agressive collections policy and emergency room problems. Well, just got a list of this year’s bonuses. The grand total is $2,531,256—a cool $1 million over last year. Toping the list of 197 recipients was Dr. William Roper who got $110,010, followed by UNC Hospital president Gary Park with $103,632 and Department of Medicine chair Marschall Runge with $101,246. Several more are over the $50K range.

Meanwhile, I’m still hearing stories–more of them, in fact–about the collections system riding roughshod over the good people of North Carolina.
