Foxx, McHenry vote against Voting Rights Act

Don’t count Rep. Virginia Foxx and Rep. Patrick McHenry among the big tent supporters in their party. They were the only members of the North Carolina congressional delegation to vote against renewal of the Voting Rights Act. The two are part of a group of southern conservatives who tried to derail it all. The Dems got pretty fired up about it and now two young members of the NC delgation have earned their ultraconservative bona fides.

Roll call here.

  1. Rhymes With Right

There are, of course, some legitimate beefs with the blind renewal of provisions that were intended to expire in 1970 — including the fact that it means that we will spend the next quarter century trying to fix racial discrimination in the 1964 presidential election rather than dealing with any current Voting Rights issues.
